Drilling
Oil extraction operations begin long before the first barrel reaches the surface. It all starts with a meticulous exploration phase, during which specialized teams examine the soil to identify promising areas. Once these areas are defined, drilling can begin. This process involves sinking deep wells to reach oil deposits buried underground.
Since the launch of the Doba project, more than 900 production wells have been drilled, each marking a crucial advancement in oil exploitation. Depending on the specific characteristics of the well and the subsoil, these wells are equipped with either Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESPs) or Progressive Cavity Pumps (PCPs) to maximize extraction efficiency. Today, approximately 300 active wells are in operation, demonstrating the robustness and continuity of extraction activities. Each well, through its daily production, contributes not only to the success of the project, but also to the region’s energy supply, making this vast oil project a key player in the industry. Once out of the ground, the crude is ready to be transported to the gathering station.
